ESS General Home Page Template

This is where you’ll find information about the application you are using, or considering using. However, what you are reading here is only a template for a general purpose home page.

This page is your application’s temporary home page until IT/Support creates their own, customized ESS general homepage.

Here are instructions for creating a customized General Home Page:

  1. On the same PC you’ll be using to access your ESS applications, use MS Word to create the home page content. Even images like the one here can be included.
  2. Use Save-As, choose a meaningful name, and set the Save-As-type to “web page (*.htm; *.html)”.
  3. If your new homepage does not contain any images skip to step 6.
  4. If your new homepage file contains one more images the Save-As step will create an HTML file and a folder of the same name with “_files” appended to the name. Your image(s) reside within this folder.
  5. Before your new homepage can be uploaded you need to first create a ZIP file containing the new HTML file and the matching folder. An easy way to do this is to select both the HTML file and the folder containing the images, right-click and choose “Send To” -> “Compressed (zipped) Folder”. This will create the ZIP file in the current folder.
  6. IT staff, and Application admins with appropriate privileges, can click “Admin” -> “Customize” -> “Homepage” to navigate to their district’s General Home Page layout screen.
  7. This page allows the admin to edit the ESS home page welcome text and to upload the new homepage content file. Click the “browse” button right of the “Upload Main Content File” label, near the top of the screen. Only HTML, HTM and ZIP files are supported.
  8. After selecting your new home page content file, click the “Update” button to save the changes.

You can view the ESS General Home Page by clicking the “Home” menu choice in the upper left side of every ESS page. Due to browser caching, you may need to hold down the Shift key while clicking your browser’s “refresh” button to see the changes.
